Profile Information

Describe yourself, briefly
I am a 72 year-old great-grandmother with a keen interest in everything from religions to politics. I have been disabled since birth but have never let my disabilities prevent me from being very active, especially mentally. I have also been a wheelchair-user for the last ten years since contracting MRSA during a routine operation. I am an active member of my Liberal Jewish community. I do not fulfil the eligibility criteria for being an MP or MSP - I am too old and my physical condition now restricts me in leading such a full and active life.
What do you do, mostly?
I am devoted to my family and visit them whenever I can travel there. I lost one of my sons four years ago - my family continues to grow with three married grand-daughters who have 10 children between them

I have completed my doctorate and was ordained as an Independent Interfaith Rabbi in February 2012. Much of my ministry is online or face-to-face with individuals as a need arises. I am in the planning stages of setting up a small and inclusive Independent Jewish Community in my own locality. I also study with my own community Rabbi and take part in all his classes.

I belong to various Peace & Justice groups, mainly connection with fighting for the rights of the Palestinian people. I do some political lobbying and stand up for the rights of Disabled People and the LGBTI community. I am very concerned about Human Rights abuses and try to make a difference by taking action wherever possible.

Most of my campaigning is done from home on my computer.
What matters most in the world?
Peace, Justice and equality for all people of all races, creeds and colours.

Truth is needed to achieve Justice and Justice must be present in order to achieve Peace.

Fairness and an equitable distribution of money - fair taxation system.

The eradication of the abject poverty and discrimination in the UK and of poverty and corrupt government here and overseas.

Better level of State Pension because it is currently too low for Pensioners to live on - it is barely at subsistence level.

A decent living wage for all people in the world.
If you were Prime Minister what would you do?
I would take seriously strong action against the following groups of people:-

1. Tax dodgers - the rich who know how to do creative accounting and succeed in avoiding paying their fair share of Income Tax to the detriment of the poor and vulnerable in our society.

2. Fraudsters - I particularly dislike being "spammed" by fraudulent emails trying to con me into revealing financial information about myself. I would crack down very hard against these people and I have the know-how and means with which to do it!

3. I would crack down very hard on people who send unsolicited emails either pretending to be bank managers or holders of large sums of money to which they pretend I am entitled - these people are fraudsters. I get particularly incensed by receiving emails from people who seek to gain information from me by replying only to their "personal email address" - these people are confidence tricksters and they are being traced and will be tracked down.

I would ensure that all such fraudsters and confidence tricksters were dealt with very severely!

I abhor people who set up false accounts on websites in order to "troll" websites and to deceive others! Now, more than ever, we need to guard against these people infiltrating our daily lives! Be careful whom you invite or add to groups!

To reinforce this - I NEVER respond to emails or messages which only seek to invade my privacy and extract personal information. If a message to me cannot be said on a public forum, I will not reply under any circumstances!
What does Soft Power say to you?
The power to achieve by attraction and persuasion - in other words, to achieve one's aims or goals with a "softly, softly" approach.
Do you have children?
Yes, two sons [one passed away last year] - plus grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a step-family.
What would you like from this site?
I think this site will provide a very interesting alternative to the male-dominated "yah boo" politics which is exercised by the men in Parliament. It will give those of us who are interested in the political scene an opportunity to put forward alternative ways of achieving our goals in a non-confrontational way.

This is even more important now in the light of the last five years of the appalling government of the country for the last five years! I am hoping for radical change with many more women in Parliament and with more people who are from "grass roots" backgrounds and NOT the pale, male, middle-aged, privately-educated Eton/Oxbridge brigade who have no compassion for the poor, disabled and vulnerable citizens of the UK. This Government has broken its Covenant with our Armed Forces! It has to be re-established and upheld!

Persuasion, even honest cajoling, often achieves better results in the long term. This is not to say we are weak or ineffective, it just means a different way of achieving our aims.
