I have been thinking about how to create a gift that stands for the vision and action that the Downing Street Project stands for. And I would like to open this idea up to you so that together we can create a great gift that the DSP can offer to its members, supporters & & &.
Something that leaves a trace, a happy smile, a message...
As a visual starting point I have been thinking of Puzzle pieces:
the shape looks like a human figure and can stand for
building 'blocks'
laying a foundation
togetherness
connecting people
varieties of viewpoints
supporting each other
expanding network
each part has its place in the whole
one ness/ togetherness
dedication of one to support and be supported by the whole
interlocking/ joining forces/ belonging
every piece contains a part of the bigger picture
never ending network of possibilities
piece by piece, step by step
each piece is whole in itself but also open to being part of a greater whole, dream, vision, reality
etc.* PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ADD THOUGHTS HERE
We want to try and find something that is contemporary. Not overly reminiscent of old female traditions, but certainly respecting the traditions that have gone before to pave the way to where we are today...
So here are a few more ideas for what it might look like:
-Textiles/ fabric (thinking of Quilt tradition- women’s tradition, sewing, stitching, story telling, sharing, connecting etc.) A sewing kit that contains fabric in the shape of a puzzle, needle and thread. (that can be linked to another possible DSP (art) project. where everyone can sew their piece into the whole to demonstrate their commitment to the project...
-A cookie cutter in the shape of a puzzle piece
*MORE TO COME 7 PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SHARE YOUR IDEAS ABOUT THIS
I WILL BE SETTING UP A GIFT-GROUP SO JOIN IF YOU WANT TO BE INVOLVED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF DSP AS A GIFT...
Oh I understand the gift idea now ...i'll join up- other possible ideas............a piece of music or a dramatic piece...or some other intangible gift that will allow for the individual to place their own value/ meaning or impression on it!
