Describe yourself, briefly
Short! That's is the word that best describes me! Short hair. 5ft nothing in me socks. And a fairly short fuse when it comes to injustice or imbalance in the world. Having worked for 10 years in BBC news I noticed how traditional news agenda were skewed to reporting the negative scary stuff. Death, destruction and crisis are the norm in our world according to them. Yet I knew from the newswires that there were other amazing stories out that could empower and inspire our social conciousness instead of leading it to depression. With that in mind I jumped ship and started Positive TV with four other like minded friends. We aim to redress the balance and change the way people think about their world. Its not all bad you know.... and when it is, we are creative enough and intellegent enough to do something about it.
What do you do, mostly?
Mostly work ! But only because I love it and it drives me. I long ago looked at my work -life balance and its something I have to continually address. But its important to me to create something everyday, and to challenge myself. I also beleive that everyone should take time out in their day to meditate - quieten their mind and do nothing. I want this to be taught in our schools as part of our curriculum and I'm working on making that happen. I beleive we would have less war, aggresion and depression if we did. I do speaking engagements about meditation, females in the corporate world and the effects of negative news on our body. Other than that its walking the dog, painting and playing music.
What matters most in the world?
Balance, and action as opposed to RE-action, which is what we tend to do in our society today. We have a problem and we Re-act, without quiet reflection, gently assessment, and wise interpretation. If we did that I beleive we would have less mess. Also less speaking more listening.
If you were Prime Minister what would you do?
Resign. I'm not sure that the current structure of parliament fits the people its designed to serve anymore. I beleive no one person however ethical, moral and honourable is strong enough to withstand the might of the current structure which in my view is rotten to the core sadly.
What does Soft Power say to you?
Soft Power is an interesting name. I think it say smuch of the things that matter to me as I wrote above. It conjures up images of the wiser gentler leader. There are leaders who lead from the front - like in an armed charge to battle. But there are also leaders who lead from behind, like herders tending cattle. Guiding. Nudging. Allowing the group to work together. Its a very feminine way to lead. Long ovedue in my view.
Do you have children?
No, though many neices, nephews and godchildren
What would you like from this site?
I'd like to see some really concrete things taken forward and if the site can be a repository for corporations and governments to gain advice and guidance on to how better service their female staff then this site will be able to shape the expectations of a generations of young women.
